New media art is not that often looked at from an art-historical point of view. How then do we determine it's value? Does an installation like Spatial Sounds truly belong in a quite museum? Do computer graphics films from the seventies breathe pure nostalgia, or are they just saddening in general? And how much you're willing to pay for 5 minutes of abstract noise? In short; new media art, what's it worth?

Medialab SETUP presents an alternative version of the Antiques Roadshow, based upon a popular tv show (in Dutch called 'Tussen Kunst & Kitsch'). Makers and lovers of media art claim the stage, and share their funny, beautiful or even touching stories concerning their favourite art work. But apart from this personal value, do these works have any cash value at all? This is where our experts step in, to provide the nessecary art-historical context, and to judge without mercy: are we looking at something of true value, or have we encountered worthless knick knacks?

The Antiques Roadshow goes digital, and puts you in the middle of an exciting tv format. With a story and a wink, we discover what we can, may and should do with media art.
