Arne Boon - Elapse
Elapse is an installaton that scans the visual environment bit by bit and composes one single scene
out of all those separate moments.
Elapse depicts a stll image of the moments that inevitably pass by, and tries to capture our linear
timeframe into one single scene. The installaton tries to remark the very existence of tme, space
and percepton. On itself the installaton is presentng the environment as it has been captured
over tme, for a creatve visitor this becomes a platorm to play with the natural constrains of tme
and space and shape an image that tricks the percepton of a scene.
A prototype has been developed with Processing, some images below. For Freemote the system will eventually be developed solidly in openFrameworks. Below some exported images that were composed realtme.

With the festval theme Threshold in mind, the Elapse installaton can be interpreted as an
instrument for a threshold over tme, space and percepton. The visitors themselves are
responsible for the scenes composed: their threshold on presence is leading. Visitors control the
content and size of data blocks that are captured, by doing so the situaton and decision of what is
captured to be composed is refected in the resultng scene. When doing something quick it will
lose detail, investng tme reveals more of the interest. In the end one's threshold in tme and
interest is fundamental for the outcome of results. Referring to threshold as noun: its the tme and
intensity that must be exceeded for a certain result to be manifested.
Practcally the installaton could serve as a 'live stream report' of the festval, publishing the shots
made directly on an online platorm such as fickr or a dedicated web environment. Alternatvely to
a projected gallery, the images could also be printed directly on the spot.
